Heat at Lakers Tonight: Miami's Two Straight Wins Meet Doncic and a Tired Home Team at 10 P.M.
Miami opens its five-game western trip tonight at Crypto.com Arena (10 p.m. ET, WPLG Local 10 in South Florida) riding consecutive wins — against a 5-2 Lakers team playing its second game in two nights, with Giannis Antetokounmpo (28.2 points a game) facing Luka Doncic (a league-leading 36.2).

The Heat's season did not start well, and everybody in the building tonight knows it. What has changed is the last week: consecutive wins over Atlanta and Indiana — the second a 145-125 NBA Cup rout of the Pacers — sent Miami west with a pulse, and tonight at 10 p.m. ET at Crypto.com Arena the trip gets its first examination. The Los Angeles Lakers are 5-2, near the top of the Western Conference, and playing the second half of a back-to-back after beating Toronto on Sunday night. South Florida watches on WPLG Local 10.
The matchup is a study in volume. Giannis Antetokounmpo is averaging 28.2 points, 12.3 rebounds and 5.5 assists for Miami, the interior engine of a team that plays at the league's third-fastest pace, 107.1 possessions a game. Across from him, Luka Doncic directs Los Angeles at a league-leading 36.2 points a night with 7.6 assists. The projected starters underline the shape of it — Miami with Davion Mitchell, Klay Thompson, Bam Adebayo, Andrew Wiggins and Antetokounmpo; Los Angeles with Doncic, Austin Reaves, Walker Kessler, Matisse Thybulle and Jake LaRavia. The Lakers have won three straight in the series, including both meetings last season. Miami guard Tim Hardaway Jr. is questionable for personal reasons, per the DraftKings Network preview.
The books cannot quite agree, which is its own preview: DraftKings made Los Angeles a 1.5-point favorite with a total of 236.5, while FanDuel's line, carried in the SI preview, sat at Lakers -2.5. Covers, picking Miami on the moneyline, pointed at the rest edge — a rested Heat team against a home side playing its third game in four nights, with a fourth-quarter net rating over its last four outings that Covers put at -42.5, worst in the league by a wide margin. Tips at 10. Rested legs against a hot home team — by midnight Eastern, one of those stories is wrong.
