New Westbound I-395 Ramp to Southbound I-95 Opens Wednesday Morning, FDOT Says
A piece of the Connecting Miami rebuild reaches drivers this week: the new ramp from westbound I-395 to southbound I-95 opens Wednesday morning, November 4, entering about 500 feet sooner and removing a merge. One more overnight closure, Tuesday, comes first.

Drivers leaving Miami Beach and downtown on westbound I-395 get a new piece of road this week. On Wednesday morning, November 4, the new ramp from westbound I-395 to southbound I-95 opens to traffic, the Florida Department of Transportation's I-395/SR 836/I-95 project team announced in its October 30 traffic alert, read in full by this desk on Sunday.
The change is in the geometry. Drivers heading to southbound I-95 will enter the new ramp approximately 500 feet sooner than they do today, and the new configuration eliminates an existing merge point to improve traffic flow: one left lane feeds the new southbound I-95 ramp, two center lanes continue to westbound State Road 836, and one right lane serves northbound I-95. New overhead signs will guide drivers to their destinations, the project team said.
Opening the ramp takes one more closure. Westbound I-395 will be closed at Biscayne Boulevard, and the Downtown Miami ramp to I-395 will also close, on Tuesday evening, November 3, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. The posted detour sends westbound drivers off at Biscayne Boulevard, south to NE 6 Street and west to NW 7 Avenue and NW 7 Street to reach SR 836 at NW 17 Avenue; drivers continuing to I-95 use NW 3 Avenue for the northbound ramp or NW 3 Court for the southbound ramp.
The milestone sits inside the larger overnight pattern this desk has been filing: westbound I-395 also closes at Biscayne Boulevard on Sunday and Monday nights, 11 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., for drainage work near the Dolphin Expressway. Schedules on this project can change with weather and field conditions, and the project team posts its alerts and detour maps at i395-miami.com, with live conditions on FL511.
