Westbound I-395 Closes Tonight at 11 P.M. at Biscayne Boulevard: The Signed Detour, Night by Night
The first of three overnight closures starts Sunday night, 11 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., for drainage work across the Dolphin Expressway - and the sequence ends with a new ramp to southbound I-95 opening Wednesday morning.
Drivers leaving Miami Beach on the MacArthur Causeway late Sunday night will find every westbound lane of Interstate 395 closed at Biscayne Boulevard, from 11 p.m. Sunday to 5:30 a.m. Monday, according to the Florida Department of Transportation's I-395/SR 836/I-95 project team. The same closure repeats Monday night, November 2, at the same hours, so crews can install drainage pipes across State Road 836 near the Northwest 12th Avenue ramp. The I-95 ramps to westbound SR 836 close on both nights as well.
The signed detour for Dolphin Expressway drivers is surface streets through downtown: take the Biscayne Boulevard exit, Exit 2, then west on Northeast 13th Street, north on Northeast First Avenue, west on Northwest 14th Street, south on Northwest 12th Avenue and west on Northwest Seventh Street to the SR 836 on-ramp at Northwest 17th Avenue, the project team said. The I-395 ramps to I-95 themselves stay open for drivers entering from the downtown Miami ramp.
Tuesday night, November 3, brings the payoff closure: westbound I-395 and the downtown Miami ramp close from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. so crews can open the new ramp from westbound I-395 to southbound I-95, which carries its first traffic on Wednesday morning, November 4, according to the project's October 30 traffic alert. Separately, FDOT's Miami-area list carries a daytime closure of NW 3 Avenue between NW 14 Street and NW 15 Street, Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., for overhead work.
Closure schedules are FDOT's and can change with weather or field conditions - and a Flood Watch is in effect for Miami-Dade through Monday afternoon. The project posts its alerts and detour maps at i395-miami.com, and live conditions are on FL511.
