Miami Carol City's Appeal Denied: The FHSAA Playoff Ban Stands, and a 7-3 Season Ends Without the Postseason
The Chiefs made their last argument on Sunday afternoon, less than a week before the state reveals its playoff brackets. The Florida High School Athletic Association said no — the postseason ban from the Grayson handshake-line fight stands.

Miami Carol City's season ended in a hearing, not on a field. The Florida High School Athletic Association on Sunday denied the Chiefs' appeal of their 2026 postseason ban, according to state officials — a last-gasp filing made less than a week before the FHSAA reveals its playoff brackets on Friday evening at 5 p.m. The ban stands, and a 7-3 team that stood sixth in the state's Open Division rankings will watch the postseason from home.
The punishment traces to one night and one line: a fight in the handshake line after Carol City's 10-9 loss to Loganville (Georgia) Grayson earlier this season. For that altercation, the FHSAA suspended 15 unnamed players, placed the program on restrictive probation — including the restriction from postseason competition for the 2026-27 school year — and fined the program $1,500, at $100 per athlete involved. Sunday's denial leaves every piece of that in place. In the bracket the Chiefs vacate, Raines takes the No. 6 Open Division spot, with Venice and Miami Central in the next two seeds, per Sunday's rankings update.
The appeal also landed on top of a season already heavy with sanctions. The FHSAA had previously assessed Carol City monetary penalties totaling $3,700 and forced the forfeits of wins over West Boca Raton in the preseason and Daytona Mainland in the regular season, and placed the program on administrative probation for one calendar year, ending September 1, 2027. Senior cornerback Jailen Hill, a four-star summer transfer from St. John Bosco in California, was ruled ineligible through August 2027 after the association found he had participated with the program before his official enrollment, that his academic eligibility could not be verified, and that he was living with a representative of the school's athletic interest.
On the field, the Chiefs had just beaten Miami Central 27-10 last week to close at 7-3 — a leap from last season's 6-6 finish, and now the final word on the year. The brackets come out Friday at 5 p.m. Carol City will not be in them.
